I am about to pick up a new 2.0T AWD ATS on Wednesday, I just had a few questions about car care tips I have ever heard over the years, which I am not sure if they dont apply now, or if maybe they apply now more then ever:
1- After driving this turbo engine hard, or taking a long trip on the highway for example, should you let the engine idol for 30 seconds or so before shutting it off? Back in high school I had a turbo Eagle Talon, and people would tell me this so I always did it, shutting the engine off right away after heavy use would cut off the oil to the turbo bearings while they were still very hot they would say causing them to fail a lot earlier. Was that real and would it still apply?
2- My previous car was a BMW X3, many transfer cases on that car were known to fail, luckily mine never did in 126K miles. But people would say that the tires always had to be the original manufactures brand, and they had to be rotated and changed at the same time so that the tred was always even, as if tires did not match in tred pattern or depth of tred the AWD system would be confused and continuously be changing power from one wheel to another causing it to fail earlier. Should the same care be done for the ATS?
3- And finally, I have heard that you need to be very easy on a new car for the first 500 miles or so, as things like the seals in the engine are still forming so you dont want to drive it hard or it could damage them. Not that I plan to drive the car that hard, but should I be especially easy the first 500 miles or about?
