I recently bought a 2016 ATS Coupe and love everything about the driving experience except one small issue. The gas pedal was unusually stiff and what I'd call notchy. I moved from an older CTS that had a smooth and easy pedal and the new pedal just stood out as not feeling quite right.
So over the weekend I dove into the pedal assembly to see if there's any adjustability. It turns out that the interior of the assembly has two springs, one inside another that provide the resistance to the pedal. Removing the harder inner spring reduced the pedal resistance to just how I like it. It's almost like GM intended it to be adjustable by playing with the combination of springs. Adding some thick lube also made it feel smoother.
There's one 10mm holding the pedal assembly to the floor, and 6 torx (i think t-20) to open it up. From start to finish, the whole effort was less than 6 minutes.
This probably isn't for everyone, but I thought I'd share that it's a super easy mod in case anyone was wondering about it.
